GTNM – 2012 recipe experiments so far…

I’ve tried a bunch of recipes since the start of 2012. Not sure whether I’d start a blog or not, I didn’t take pictures or record all my modifications (I rarely make a recipe without changing something). But from this point on, I promise to take pictures and share the recipes with you. In the meantime, check out the list and get a feel for my favourite tastes =)


week 1
  1. Brownies with peanut butter frosting layer – so so
  2. White chocolate peanut butter – yum, used this peanut butter for above recipe!
week 2:
  1. Speculoos ice cream with waffles – using this peanut butter ice cream recipe, substituting Biscoff spread for peanut butter
  2. Caramel apple crumb cake – ok, but not great
  3. Vanilla caramel sauce – yum – will definitely make again (super poured over popcorn)
  4. Caramel apple ice cream – tart, wouldn’t make again
  5. Chicken with orzo – inspired by this recipe but with my olive/mushroom tapenade, mozzarella cheese and chicken breasts
  6. Speculoos oatmeal cookies – to die for, especially hot (I add a big spoonful of biscoff spread to the dough too)
week 3
  1. cashew nut butter
  2. applesauce – seems a lot of work when I can get a jar for 1€
  3. applesauce cookies – from chewy choc chip recipe– substituted half butter with applesauce and quarter flour with bran. cooked in muffin tins
week 4
  1. party nachos
  2. peanut butter chocolate chip cookie bar
week 1
  1. Candy stuffed cookie cups with frosting – wow, amazing! did this with speculoos cookie recipe and snickers bars
  2. Spaghetti and meatballs
  3. pizza stuffed pretzels – brought me back to childhood. I loved these!
week 2
  1. Chicken cacatore risotto – not my favourite, but I think that’s because of the rice element (much more a wheat fan), was well appreciated

week 3

  1. Red Onion & Garlic Focaccia – good, but tempted to try and compare other recipe)
  2. Mini ham & cheese quinoa cakes – made with chicken instead of ham and spinach instead of zucchini (courgette). super yummy and full of protein. Hubby even loved them and he’s not a fan of quiche-like fare.
  3. Dutch baby – I did it with caramelised apples and chocolate chunks, but still didn’t like the dough.
  4. Meatloaf – combined two recipes and added minced mushrooms
week 4
  1. BHG Focaccia  – airier than other recipe, but I wouldn’t say better. They were both good.

    Well I’m going to have to try the pizza stuffed pretzels & the quinoa cakes! I’m impressed by how many new recipes you’ve tried!

      You picked well. I can totally see you loving the quinoa cakes! 2 years ago I made a New Year’s resolution to try one new recipe a week, and now it’s something I really enjoy =)

        Would you believe I haven’t ever used quinoa before? Can’t even tell you why … We tend to do at least 2-3 new recipes a month, but generally not ones as ambitious as these! 🙂 I just recently made zucchini parmesan casserole – it was SO good! (And pretty easy to make).

        Yummy =) I would think with avoiding gluten, it would be one of your go-to grains. It’s very tasty and full of protein.
