What my degree in IPE didn't teach me about baking, DIY, fitness, and life…
Just a few more days of August yet. The weather is starting to change; the days are getting shorter; and school supplies line the shelves. In Belgium “la rentrée” (the day all the kids go back to school) is September 1st. And in Brussels, which tends to empty out for the August holiday, you can really feel it. The kids head back to school and the adults head back into the stress-filled rat race that temporarily abates in August. The traffic gets denser, noisier, and less patient; no one has time for a drink anymore; and everyone is busy busy busy!
I was always one of those nerdy kids that loved the “back to school” time – the freshly sharpened number 2 pencils, new class schedules, and empty planners. I still do. I love the feeling of a fresh start, the excitement that comes with a mind open to new opportunities, the feeling that anything is possible. But what I don’t like is the rat race, the incessant need to be busy, the stress, the impatience… So for August’s Bakemasters I decided to take advantage of the last bells of the carefree August days and have a Lazy Hazy Days of Summer Shindig =) The idea was simple bring food that reminds you of Summer, sit on the balcony with glass in hand, and chat as the sun goes down.
It worked out great. We had an awesome spread, near perfect weather, and a great time catching up on each other’s Summer adventures. Plus, the next day I got to have leftovers for lunch. Check it out:
I’m looking forward to new adventures in September – World Chocolate Day is coming up after all, but I’m glad we got the chance for one last carefree Summer evening =)
What’s your favourite part of Summer?
PS Today is Banana Lovers Day. High in potassium and fiber, go and enjoy a banana today or better yet banana froyo
