Temptation Tuesdays

Can’t believe it’s September. School has officially started and the cars are back in the city. September is usually a great time in Brussels. The weather tends to be sunny and temperate, with cool nights and warm days. Plus September has car free Sunday, where the city shuts down its roads to cars and celebrates all things pedestrian – it’s pretty cool), and the annual Waiter’s Race, where waiters dressed in tuxes run down the royal street carrying a tray of champaign and two full glasses. They get points for getting their first and not spilling the wine! Plus I like the “new start” feeling that comes with the new school year. September is also a fun time for foodies, as the fun fall flavours come back into play. Plus it starts with World Chocolate Day. Yesterday (sorry Temptation Tuesdays is posting on Wednesday this week – oops) Team Bakemasters went to town celebrating the wonders of chocolatey goodness. I can’t wait to share it with you, but in the meantime, here’s what’s been happening this week:

Foodie posts this week on Doctorate Housewife:

White Chocolate and Cookies Cake with Butterscotch Buttercream: An over the top creation. It starts with a cookie crust, continues with a white chocolate cake, is stuffed with cookie dough frosting, and enveloped with a butterscotch buttercream. It was a wonderful calorie bomb =)

My First Foodie PenPal: Like food? Like getting mail? Check out this really cool programme. Plus my first attempt at making chocolate bark

Fruits of the Harvest: I got stuff to grow!! I wasn’t sure I would, but we actually got to eat some of the stuff I planted and (fingers crossed) there’s more to come!

Most viewed edible entry (post about food):

My First Foodie PenPal – Sign up, it’s awesome!

Tempting tidbits from other blogs:

Banana Monkey Bread Muffins (Baker Girl): Kerry has outdone herself with this one. I can’t wait to try it!

3 Ingredient Mini Turtle Brownies (Iowa Girl Eats): Brownies in muffin tins plus yummy caramel. What a great idea!

No-bake Biscoff Granola Bars (Two Peas & Their Pod): A great back to school staple. Perfect for lunch boxes =)

I love the idea of car free Sunday! So interesting…how did that come about in Brussels?

It’s part of European Mobility Week, an initiative designed to get people moving and encourage sustainable urban mobility (i.e. fewer cars, more public transport, walking, biking, etc). It’s really cool. There’s all sorts of events associated with it, including covering the entire main square with grass and bringing in animals for the city folk to play with =p
