Hi everybody. What did you think about yesterday’s availability post? Have you thought about the one thing you’re going to change to make your healthy goals more available to you? Well, I have good news. SlimKicker wants to help! SlimKicker is a calorie tracking app that takes your health/fitness goals and turns them into a level-up game. You upload an image of something you’ll reward yourself with, such as a pair of shoes, and when you reach a certain number of points, they’ll remind you that it’s time for your reward. SlimKicker also has lots of recipe ideas such as Medifast chili.
Tracking is a scientifically proven method of achieving your goals. It’s way too easy to deceive ourselves into thinking that we just had a “bite” or a “pinch” – or my favourite: “the calories don’t count if the cookie is broken”. The trouble is that they do! Those little bites add up quickly and can completely derail all your hard work (trust me I know from experience! See my No Seconds 2.0 plan). Talk about demotivating! Tracking is the antidote to this sort of mindless eating. It makes you aware of what you’re taking in and forces you to make a conscious choice. There’s nothing wrong with having a treat. The trick is to keep those treats in check.
In order to make that tracking easier, SlimKicker is offering one lucky reader a brand-new food scale (Sorry US residents only- for shipping reasons.) All you have to do is leave a comment with a health or fitness challenge. Submissions are open for a week. After which, they’ll choose their favourite who’ll win the scale.
I’d love to have lots of comments for them to choose from and lots of challenges to inspire us all. How about your availability goal? For me, I want to cut down on my afternoon snacking and increase my afternoon exercise. So I think I’m going to challenge myself to move before I snack. To make the idea of moving more salient, I’m going to put a reminder on my phone that pops up mid-afternoon.
What are you going to do? How are you going to make your life healthier today? =) Don’t forget to leave a comment and earn a chance to win the scale!
I try to wait a half hour after supper to have dessert. When I have ice cream I use the smallest bowl we have in the house. I don’t eat breakfast untill I get to work in the morning, that way I don’t eat two breakfasts. And I always bring my breakfas and lunch to work so I can control what I eat.
I am super out of shape right now, and my eating habits have really slipped into the too much junk area. Now that I’m cooking gluten free for my celiac kiddo, it’s been hard to focus on also making things healthy. Food scales are awesome for gluten free cooking and for healthy eating. I’d love it for both challenges! My challenge is to make a healthy lunch each day. No more grabbing whatever I can find quickly!
My challenge is staying motivated to enjoy my runs when I start to get both mentally and physically tired.
My goal is to consistently get to the gym/workout for four hours each week.
I always bring my lunch to work along with protein rich snacks, but I really need to watch my portion control! A scale would help me do that!!!
How cool! My health goal is to make sure I don’t “graze” at night time. That’s my weakest time, as far as eating goes, and even if I had a great day (food wise) I sometimes will ruin it at night. I will try to avoid this by brushing my teeth as soon as I’m done with dinner, and enlisting the help of my husband! This looks so cool, and I think I’ll feature this over at SmartPhoneHC.com very soon!
I just got back from an appointment with my nutritionist and it’s all about the protein for me right now. Lots of protein and fresh veggies!
My biggest challenge is eating too much, so this is perfect!
my issue…TOO much food – I really need to begin weighing my food
My biggest challenge is incorporating more water into my daily diet. I have started drinking crystal light to help with that.
Watching portion sizes is key for me!
Lots of water, less baked goods! We’ve only got a couple weeks left before my birthday trip so I’m being extra mindful of what I eat. & getting at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. =)
My challenge is to loose my baby weight. It’s only been 2 months since my sons arrival, but I want to loose tighten and ton by 9months!
I am definitely trying to exercise more consistently! Zumba is helping!
My challenge is to spend a few minutes to think before I eat something impulsively like potato chips or junk food. Just clear my mind and ask if I really need to eat it.
